Overseas Citizenship of India, popularly called OCI, refers to the permanent residency offered to Indian origin and their respective spouses. As per this, such people can easily work and stay within the nation and earn privileges like other citizens. But it does not include the right to vote in general elections or hold offices.
With the COVID-19 pandemic, several such holders were trapped in other countries and needed much-required escape back to the motherland. Recently, they have shared happy news. The news In early August, the Union Home Ministry allowed OCI holders of four nations, i.e., the USA, UK, Germany, and France, to return to India and signed a bilateral air travel deal. It means that such holders can come back to India to stay and find employment as per their convenience. Similarly, the regular Indians can also visit these nations under any visa type and enjoy the services. Such news amidst the pandemic aids in improvising the ties with the foreign nations and eases the process of e-visa further that was suspended for temporary reasons. It is up to the flights' responsibility to ensure compliance with these guidelines while transiting such passengers. The reactivation of e-visa With this, the e-visa portal for such holders has been reactivated, and now they can freely apply for this. Such a visa is given to those holders whose basic purpose of coming to India includes the following:
Documents required The most general documents include a recent passport-sized photograph, proof of OCI, and to and fro travel tickets. Apart from these, the specific categories might ask for any of the following:
The process of application is pretty simple for such e-visas. All the applicant needs to do is fill up the general form, upload the required documents, and pay the processing fee (conversion rates might vary). Post this, a tracking confirmation would come to check the details of the application, and finally, within five days, the e-visa would be shared on the email address. The same needs to be shown at airports to get authenticated along with the passport.
